It’s Official: The VMA & PIA Merger Is Approved!

The merger between VMA and Printing Industries Association (PIA) is now official, effective July 1, 2025. Driven by common challenges — such as declining membership, overlapping expenses, and an aging workforce—this strategic union positions both organizations for long-term sustainability and stronger member support.

To protect VMA’s interests and preserve its unique voice, leadership engaged legal counsel and performed extensive due diligence before making this important decision. All current member benefits — including insurance programs, publications, local events, and discounts — will remain intact, with new services such as two full-time recruiters launching immediately to help address staffing shortages across the industry

Key roles are clearly defined: Ian Flynn will lead association activities and local events, while Lou Caron will focus on insurance solutions. VMA also retains four guaranteed seats on the new board and has secured multi-year commitments from key leaders to ensure a smooth and member-focused transition. Members can expect a continued local presence, expanded services, and a stronger collective voice.
