Just when you thought 3D printing couldn’t get any cooler, earlier this month at CES 2017, several innovative products designed to enable users to capture 3D objects and reproduce them with unprecedented ease made their debut. Front and center among these was Shining 3D’s Einscan Pro+, a hand-held 3D scanner, and its companion, the Einstart C desktop printer.

1. Affordable and compact: Based on FFF/FDM technology (fused filament fabrication), the Einstart-C is an affordable, compact, next-gen system that features a single-nozzle extruder and is capable of printing objects as large as 6” x6” x 6”. An eco-friendly PLA plastic is used in production. Best of all, the system is fully enclosed to prevent burns and injuries.
2. Auto calibration and standalone capability: Thanks to three built-in sensors in the printing bed, the printer is able to automate the calibration process and correct for any height differentiation during the process. What’s more, printing is enabled through a USB thumb drive or a standard Wi-Fi connection.
3. Online data library: Thanks to an online data library, users can access thousands of 3D models and print them directly on their system. Selected files are automatically saved before printing on 4GB of local flash storage.
In addition to its state-of-the-art 3D printer, Shining 3D also debuted the EinScan-Pro+ 3D scanner, a hand-held, high-def device that achieves a balance between scanning speed and acquisition details. Designed with speed and accuracy in mind, the scanner boasts a range of single-frame scanning that has been increased by a factor of 1.6x.
