VMA Student Design Contest: Visual Media Guide Cover Win Cash Prizes & Exposure!
The Assignment
Create a cover design for the Visual Media Guide, a guide to help buyers of print and design find resources in Northern and Central California. Â
Visual Media Alliance is an industry trade association supporting small business owners in the print, packaging, label and creative agency field. Annually, we produce a printed guide for buyers of these services to locate businesses that can fulfill their needs.Â

Requirements
The competition is open to current college students studying graphic arts in the northern and central California region.
Prizes
- First Place – $500 + The winner’s design will be featured on VMA’s 2023 Visual Media Guide publication cover and in VMA’s Connected magazine and eNewsletter. These publications go to VMA’s member base of over 500 Northern California print and creative agency small business owners. Â
- Second Place – $250 + showcased in interior page of Connected and in VMA’s eNewsletter.Â
- Third Place – Three Spots – $100 + showcased in interior page of Connected and in VMA’s eNewsletter.Â
Timeline
- Design is due October 1, 2023Â
- Winners announced and contacted in mid-OctoberÂ
- Visual Media Guide is printed and distributed in December
Judging
Winner will be selected by a jury consisting of VMA’s Communications team
Design Direction
- Imagery should be designed on the theme of printing industry and elements that speak to buyers, printers, print elements such as substrates, inks, technology, Northern California geography, etc. Â
